Does it ring a bell? I am telling two things now which may be related each other or not. The first is Ohana. If any of you have ever seen a cartoon movie “Lilo and Stitch” you may know this phrase. In that movie, Lilo says to Stitch (a mutant creature) that in Hawaii there is Ohana which means no body gets left behind. The second is Hanami which I mentioned in my previous writing about Sakura. Hanami is an event when Japanese celebrates or enjoys doing pleasant things under Sakura three. As Sakura only lasts for 7-10 days, this event is special for Japanese. Interestingly, there is a special way when Japanese puts respect on a word. The word is normally preceeded with (お) or pronounced as ‘ouw’ and can be written as ‘o’. Therefore Hanami event is also called O-Hanami.
Our research group this week is going to celebrate the O-Hana-mi event. While this is to celebrate Hanami, this hopefully also means that nobody gets left behind as the spirit of Ohana.
